The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye

The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye

I just got back not long ago from seeing The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye at the Lagoon Cinema. It is only playing in town until Thursday. You can read the synopsis here. I enjoyed the film from start to finish. Filmmaker Marie Losier could have easily made a predictable and polished documentary on Genesis and Lady Jaye but she did not. Genesis and Lady Jaye would not have wanted that. The film was as experimental as Genesis' work with Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV. For all the weird footage, it is obvious that what I saw was a love story between Genesis and the late Lady Jaye. The love they had was obviously genuine. Considering both their roots as performance artists, Genesis and Lady Jaye were truly meant for each other. I really recommend for those in the local goth/industrial scene to go see this movie before its run at the Lagoon ends. There is some really great footage of Throbbing Gristle and Psychic TV worth seeing (IMHO).
