08. Hymn by Kirlian Camera

07. Dusted by Belly

06. Joey by Concrete Blonde

03. My Revenge On the World by Ayria

02. Saviour (Vox) by VNV Nation

01. A Poem for Byzantium by Delerium

10 songs I never, ever, ever need to hear again

Tonight I was perusing Huffington Post's website when I came across the 10 songs I never, ever, ever need to hear again article. The article quickly inspired me to put together my 10 songs that I never, ever, ever need to hear again.

10. Mambo No.5

09. Love Will Keep Us Together

08. Gangnam Style

07. Drive By

06. Fearless

05. Call Me Maybe

04. Whip My Hair

03. We Built This City

02. I'm Too Sexy

01. Macarena

All of these songs are absolutely hideous. I still have bad dreams about hearing "Macarena" every ten damn minutes in South Padre, TX when I was there for spring break at the height of the song's popularity in the '90s.

My 20 favorite albums that can withstand the test of time

Today at work, I was listening to my latest cd purchases that I bought yesterday at Cheapo Records The Book of Secrets by Loreena McKennitt and Spirited Away soundtrack. I was thinking to myself how well these albums have held up to the test of time. It got me to think about my favorite albums that still sounds fresh and new to these aging ears ;).

20. Tiger Bay by Saint Etienne

This was my first Saint Etienne album I ever bought. I bought it from either Columbia House or BMG music club back in the '90s (LOL). I was hooked right away. Tiger Bay was nothing like I had ever heard at the time. Still love it to this very day.

19. Scheissmessiah by Hanzel und Gretyl

Every since I bought this album (again) a few weeks ago, I have almost forgot how good the album is. I rank this as my 2nd favorite HuG album, next to 2012: Zwanzig Zwolf.

18. Blue Wonder Power Milk by Hooverphonic

This is one of my personal favorite electronica albums of the '90s, let alone all time favorite Hooverphonic album. The music sounds like one long continuous car commercial, and I mean that in a good way.

17. Sunday 8pm by Faithless

This is by far my favorite electronica album of the '90s. This album really lead me down the path into techno music, and after all these years album still sounds fantastic.

16. Lovelife by Lush

This was my first album I bought by Lush. I had seen the video for "Ladykiller" on MTV and immediately fell in love with the song. Sadly it would be the last album by Lush too. I always enjoy listening to the album at any time of day/night either at home or work.

15. Satellites by Cylab

Satellites is one of those albums that has really stuck with me over the years and has never aged with time (unlike me...haha).

14. Ray of Light by Madonna

As much as I don't like Madonna's music now, I still love Ray of Light. The production is just amazing and timeless with me.

13. Spirited Away by Joe Hisaishi

I think in general, any soundtrack that Joe Hisaishi does is timeless. His score for Departures is one of my personal favorite soundtracks as is Spirited Away. I had a hard time choosing between those two soundtracks but in the end opted for Spirited Away which was one of my first Miyazaki films that I had watched and was completely enraptured with. Still love both the film and soundtrack.

12. Republica by Republica

I still love listening to this album to this very day. At one point I used to drive one of my former roommates with this album. LOL!

11. Cuckoo by Curve

This was my first Curve album. Bought a cassette version on a whim. The rest is history if any of you know me and my fetish for their music ;).

10. Karma by Delerium

A former roommate introduced me to Delerium right around the time I was getting ready to move back to Minnesota from Wisconsin. I loved what I heard on this album then, still do to this very day. I still am not a fan of "Silence". Heard that song way too many damn times on so many chillout compilations and soundtracks.

09. The Book of Secrets by Loreena McKennitt

I have really forgotten just how good The Book of Secrets is until I bought a copy of the weekend. The music sounds so new to me once again.

08. Nightbird by Erasure

I would have listed The Innocents (which I love) but that album had really weak production, plus wasn't big on a couple of tracks. Now Nightbird on the other hand is a solid synthpop album by Erasure and their strongest effort (at least with me). Everytime I listen to it, I don't think of the fact that it is eight years old.

07. Nihil by KMFDM

06. Homogenic by Bjork

05. The Dividing by Android Lust

04. Empires by VNV Nation

03. The Failure Epiphany by Unter Null

Of all the industrial albums I have listed here on my blog entry, I think The Failure Epiphany has really held up the most well. Whenever I am in a pissed off mood, I can always count on this album to calm me down. It is the soundtrack to my life.

02. Bloodletting by Concrete Blonde

Love, love, love this album. Loved it in high school/college, still love it to this day as I am slowly edging towards 40 ;).

01. Star by Belly

I think Belly got totally written off as a one hit wonder which is a damn shame. Star is such a classic modern rock album from the '90s. I think it was and still is underappreciated. Music still sounds awesome now as it was when I was a freshman in college.

Albums I am currently listening to

Promidal: Dead Nation

When I went to the TCEP #7 CD release show on Saturday night, I picked up a copy of Promidal's EP Dead Nation. If you like aggrotech, I definitely think you will like the harsh, nihilistic sounds of Promidal.

Twin Cities Electropunk Volume 7

I picked up an actual copy of the latest TCEP compilation on Friday night as well. I like what I have heard so far. Definitely plan on reviewing it as a whole after I have listened to it a few more times. Really liked the contributions by KPT, Geodesique, Thought Thieves, Promidal, and The Night.

Loreena McKennitt: The Book of Secrets

I had to make a stop at Cheapo records today to distribute a few flyers, while there I found a cheap, used copy of The Book of Secrets. I had missed owning this album so I decided to get it. I am glad I did. I consider The Book of Secrets as one of Loreena's best albums ever.

Spirited Away Soundtrack

This is the other cd I picked up at Cheapo records today. How I missed owning this soundtrack to one of my favorite Hayao Miyazaki films. The music is such a delight to listen to.

Vicci Martinez:Vicci

I confess...I watchedthe first season of The Voice and actually liked it. Of all the contestants Vicci Martinez stood out of the bunch for me. I loved her versions of "Fucking Perfect" by P!nk,"Rolling in the Deep" by Adele, and "Jolene" by Dolly Parton. Her somewhat raspy voice had me hooked. I recently got her debut album Vicci from the library and was surprised by how good the material on the album is. Of all the songs on the album, "Stop Pretending" is my favorite track. So damn catchy.

Albums I am eagerly anticipating at the moment

As I was walking home from the library tonight, I was just thinking of all the upcoming releases that I am eagerly looking for. I am just posting those albums that have a release date.

Blutengel - Monument

This is a no brainer for me. I pre-ordered this gorgeous box set via Out of Line Records a week ago. It is going to be so well worth the $68 I shelled out for it.

KMFDM - KUNST

Believe it or not I am excited about the new KMFDM album especially after hearing the song "Ave Maria".

I think this song sounds totally bad ass.
Sarah Brightman - Dreamchaser

I am really stoked that I will be seeing Sarah live for the very first time in October. Judging by the few songs I have heard on youtube, her new album sounds wonderful.

Informatik - Playing with Fire

Torul - Tonight We Dream Fiercely

Juno Reactor - The Golden Sun of the Great East

Albums I am currently listening to

State of the Union: Black City Lights

I first heard of State of the Union last year through youtube. As a big fan of synthpop music, of course I would gravitate to their music. Almost a couple of weeks ago I found out that WTII Records was having a sale. Needless to say that was an excuse to buy more music. One of the albums I bought was State of the Union's Black City Lights. It is a fantastic album. Very catchy. I certainly recommend fellow synthpop lovers to check it out this band.

Regenerator:Disease

Diseaseis the other album I bought from WTII Records. Regenerator is one of those bands I have been meaning to add their music to my growing music collection for several years now but for some odd reason never got around to. I am really glad I can finally say I own a Regenerator album. Disease definitely proved to me that this is a band that I should have had in my music collection eons ago.

Marsheaux:Lumineaux Noir I first heard of Marsheaux last year on the 7th volume of Awake the Machines from Out of Line Records. Marsheaux is an electro pop duo from Greece. I finally got around to buying their album Lumineaux Noir and have been listening to it constantly. It is great catchy, '80s minimalistic synthpop. Check them out!

Various Artists - Machineries of Joy volume 5

I just had to buy this Out of Line records compilation when I first heard the tracks by Blutengel and Solitary Experiments. It was love at first listen for me.

Angels on Acid Unholyone and Mesh Born to Lie

Today I came across two more new music videos...Angels on Acid's Unholyone and Mesh's Born to Lie.

Personally I like the Angels On Acid video/song moreso than Mesh but that's just my personal taste ;).

Blutengel - You Walk Away

All day today I have been listening to the new Blutengel single "You Walk Away" from their upcoming album Monument.

I think it is a much stronger single than "Save Your Souls" was which for me was an okay song but it lacked the catchy pop hooks that Blutengel is notorious for in their music. Still "Save Your Souls" didn't deter me from pre-ordering the fantastic box set for Monument which consists of three discs and a 100 page retrospective of Blutengel's career. That is going to be so well worth the $68 I paid for it.

Twin Cities Electropunk Volume 7

Here it is...the seventh volume in the Twin Cities Electropunk series. Enjoy!

All the info is on the Facebook events page for the show.

KMFDM - Ave Maria [new song]

I can't believe I am saying this but I love the new KMFDM song "Ave Maria" off their upcoming album KUNST. I haven't been too impressed with their music for nearly a decade. Maybe there is hope for a band that really got me into industrial music big time.

I think I am going to get a ticket for their March show at First Avenue.

Teaser clips for the new KMFDM and Informatik albums

So I come home today and what did I see on my youtube wall? Teaser clips for the new KMFDM and Informatik albums. I have to admit this but I like what little I heard from the KUNST teaser clip. I might have to go see the band in March, let alone buy the new album.

Of course I would love the teaser for the new Informatik album Playing with Fire. I love whatever Informatik puts out.

Duck Duck Punch - RGB

So after work today, I was perusing Facebook when I unexpectedly came upon the very first music video by the Duluth synthpop band Duck Duck Punch called "RGB".

If you were at the Anything Box show at Ground Zero two years ago, Duck Duck Punch opened the show for the legendary synthpop band (along with fellow local musicians Thought Thieves). Here are my photos from the show at Ground Zero.

5 Artists and bands whose music I really need to add to my collection

This morning as I was listening to some tunes on youtube, I realize that there are a slew of artists/bands whose music I really need to add to my music collection hence this latest blog entry ;).

Chiasm

I first heard of Chiasm back when I was using Myspace for music and loved her music right away. For some odd reason, I have yet to get any of her music. I definitely plan on buying her latest album soon. From what little I have heard, it sounds terrific.

Detroit Diesel

I discovered this group on Facebook a year or two ago and loved them right from the get go. Really need to get their latest album Coup 'dEtat one of these days.

Foretaste

I have been really putting off on buying their album Love On Demand. I don't know why. I just love their brand of synthpop. I think my next online purchase will be Love On Demand. I personally love female-fronted synthpop.

Sopor Aeternus

Serenity Rise

I honestly don't like making new year's resolutions since in the past I never kept them but if I did, I would make the resolution in buying music from these artists whose music I have enjoyed listening to online yet don't have in my music collection. As a fan the least I can do is show my support and buy their music. That I am determined to do this year resolution or not.

Hurts - The Road (audio)

Earlier today I heard the new Hurts song "The Road". I really liked what I had heard. I am so pleased that the band is putting out a new album soon. That is another album to add to my list of albums I am looking forward to getting in the new year.
