Best of 2013: Goliath by Butcher Babies

Goliath by Butcher Babies

I will be brutally frank here...I really don't listen to a lot of heavy metal music because personally I am more into industrial and synthpop music (as if my readers and those who follow me on Facebook and Twitter haven't figured that out). Much to my surprise this year, I found a few heavy metal albums that grabbed my attention and have been getting lots of airplay in my portable stereo. One of those albums is the debut album Goliath by the Los Angeles band Butcher Babies. From what I have read online, The Plasmatics' "Butcher Baby" was the inspiration behind the band's name. What got my attention was that the band had two female lead singers which you really don't see in the underground music scene, especially in the metal scene. I ended up borrowing a copy of Goliath from the library earlier this summer/fall and quickly fell in love with the band's music. The music is aggressive and brutalin the vein of Lamb Of God and Hatebreed. I really love the dual vocals of Carla Coates and Heidi Shepherd, and how one is singing and the other is screaming. It is like yin and yang. I have a ton of fun listening to the album as loud as possible especially at work. I find myself headbanging to Goliath at work with my earphones on. LOL! I especially love the brutality of the title track. I love the in your face vocals by the women. This album is also good to listen to while cleaning house ;).

Here is the latest music video by the band.

If you are really fortunate enough (unlike me), the band is going on tour next year with In This Moment. Here are the tour dates.
